On Sunday 6th October we held our Arches Local Silver Sunday Afternoon Tea at our Community Hub. We invited all the ‘silver’ residents in our area to come along and enjoy a free afternoon of food, music, games and lots of chatter with both people they already knew and some new faces.

Silver Sunday is a special day in the national calendar when everyone comes together to celebrate the older people in our Communities. It can give older people the chance to feel valued, get out of the house and most importantly make new friends and connect with their communities. People all across the country hold events and activities to show their appreciation for their neighbours who built the communities they live in.

They were treated to a spread of fingers foods and fancy cakes, and all teas and coffees they could drink whilst listening to some of classic songs they love to listen to. We also had some local young people showing their older neighbours how to play our games console. Although, much to the young people’s surprise, it wasn’t long until their elders were showing them how it’s done!

For some it was a chance to get out the house and enjoy new activities and meet new people, for others it was it was a chance to relax, sit back and enjoy some good food and music, but most importantly for us, everyone had fun and left with smiles on their faces.

“Thank you to Arches Local for giving so much of your time and company, much appreciated by all.” – Dolly, 93, local resident.

Thank you to everyone who came along and had a great time at our Silver Sunday Celebrations. We hope you all enjoyed our company as much as we enjoyed yours. Here’s to next year’s event being even bigger and better than this one!
