Arches Local proudly led the entire process of the Driver Fountain’s relocation from feasibility to public unveiling, delivered under budget and ahead of schedule.
Following ten years of unsuccessful false starts by Medway Council and other parties, Arches Local brought a concerted effort to make one final attempt to bring the monument back to Luton. Originally installed at the Luton Arches in 1899, it was quietly discarded and left to languish in a forgotten corner of Chatham Cemetery since 1961.
A skilled team of partners were commissioned to bring this project to life under Arches Local’s leadership, including royal warrant-holding stonemasons Taylor Pearce, structural engineers Adkins Consultants and landscapers Meristem Design.
Through the monument’s return to its rightful place, an important piece of Chatham’s history has been repaired and will continue to tell its story. Now found in its most prominent location to date, hundreds of people interact with this historic monument, fuelling curiosity and instilling pride for generations to come.
