Luton Road was, until now, one of Medway’s few Victorian roads that had desperately been without street trees in modern time. Urban greening has been one of our flagship projects at Arches Local for the past few years, so we’re pleased to announce that the first street tree in a generation, perhaps ever, has been planted in Luton Road.

The tree is situated near a signalised crossing, opposite a primary school and next to a bus stop, so it was by no means a simple task. We hope this historic moment paves the way for further ambitious planting along Luton Road, building on the success of our growing Arches Urban Forest project, which has seen more than 60 trees planted across our wider Big Local area to date.

This would not have been made possible without the unwavering support of Medway Council’s highways team coupled with a very generous donation from Hermes UK through a nomination by Tracey Crouch MP.
